UV filtration in fume hoods
Did you know that ultraviolet light has an enormous disinfectant and sterilising capacity? This is why its uses cover a huge variety of fields, including microbiology, medicine and the food industry. As we are therefore talking about some of the sectors most closely linked to the work of Luis Capdevila, we have developed an extraction hood that optionally includes UV filtration.
First of all, let us explain how this technology works. UV filtration through fume hoods is a method of air disinfection used to eliminate pathogenic microorganisms and volatile chemical contaminants present in the air extracted from environments such as laboratories, hospitals and food processing areas. UV-C lamps installed in fume hoods emit high-energy ultraviolet light that is effective in disinfecting the air by damaging the DNA of bacteria, viruses and other micro-organisms, which renders them unable to reproduce and cause infection. They can also help break down volatile chemical compounds in the air.
As you can see, it is especially useful in environments where it is crucial to maintain a sterile or contaminant-free environment. And, precisely for this reason, it is important that UV lamps are properly maintained and changed according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, as over time their effectiveness can diminish.
Luis Capdevila’s extractor hoods that allow the incorporation of UV filtration are the CKV series. Their self-cleaning capacity makes it possible to work in a more comfortable, hygienic environment with less risk of fire. In addition, they offer the highest filtration capacity of gases and fumes generated during the cooking process thanks to the TURBO high turbulence filter used for this application. This filter generates a series of successive cyclones that significantly increase its efficiency compared to conventional filters. If we add to this the elimination of pathogenic microorganisms and contaminants through UV filtration, sanitisation is total.
